Concrete and steel chimneys have their own unique design and maintenance problems. Routine steeplejack inspections need to be reviewed by a Competent Person who can assess the implications of defects and recommend long term monitoring regimes or any necessary repairs.<\/p>

\"natural<\/a>These are a feature of thermal power stations, petro-chemical plants and some other process plants. Collapses of towers in the UK in 1965 and 1984 resulted in considerable investigations, design changes and development of inspection and assessment regimes. Some towers have been strengthened, some repaired and others just monitored for safety until end of life. Survey techniques allow plotting of cracks and shape errors and can detect small movements between surveys.<\/p>
